Carlton Soules is a lifelong Republican and successful businessman who served as a San Antonio City Councilman for District 10. His career was in sales and marketing in the food brokerage industry where he helped grow his family’s business into a Texas-wide company. He is a sixth-generation Texan, and native to San Antonio, as well as a graduate of Southern Methodist University. Carlton has been deeply involved in the leadership of neighborhood organizations and has served on numerous city and civic boards, commissions, and committees for the past 20 years.
He and his wife, Laura, have raised two wonderful children, and they are committed to making all of District 121, San Antonio, and Bexar County a place of opportunity, not only for their own children and future grandchildren, but also for all of the hard-working citizens who are proud to call Texas home.
Carlton is the strongest conservative voice to serve on San Antonio City Council in recent memory. He fought against wasteful projects that diverted funding away from core services. He opposed Streetcars, Pre-K4SA, and cash incentives for Downtown developers. He successfully challenged SAWS to reduce operating expenses, saving ratepayers from exorbitant rate increases. His philosophy for governance is simple: Government must live within its means and it’s primary focus should be on providing good basic services to the citizens, while constantly working to reduce the burden on taxpayers.
As a Councilman, Carlton spearheaded a number of important City initiatives: revitalization of aging suburban corridors, the first Veteran Owned Small Business Program in Texas, a safe park zone ordinance prohibiting dangerous registered sex offenders from living near or frequenting City Parks, and the creation of a top notch Senior Center to meet the needs of our growing population of senior citizens. Carlton also took a leadership role in regional transportation, serving on the MPO executive committee and forging working relationships with elected leaders in adjacent counties and in Austin.
Carlton is ready to provide strong and responsive leadership for the citizens of District 121, and he is ready to use his experience to help make District 121 and the State of Texas an even better place to live, work and raise a family.
